Psychology of gambling
There are many reasons why people gamble. Most people gamble for fun or for recreational and entertainment purposes, others may gamble with the hopes of beating the house and winning big, and yet there are those who for one reason or another may become addicted to gambling. The reasons gambling can become addictive are primarily the same reasons someone may become addicted to alcohol, cocaine, or any other drug. The brain of these individuals may increase the levels of dopamine and the gambler gets a high, especially if they experience some beginners luck. There are also certain medications like Mirapex® and Requip® which may also cause compulsive behaviors such as gambling, as one example.
The compulsive or pathological gambler is someone who is unable to resist the urge to gamble regardless of the consequences. But how do you know if you are or becoming a compulsive gambler? If you start out gambling occasionally and it begins to become more and more habitual, or if you continue to gamble whether your winning or losing until all your money is gone or lost. If you continue to gamble in spite of the financial hardships that may be the result of your gambling. If the gambling is interfering with your personal life or if your finances are getting out of control. If your using credit cards or borrowing money to gamble and are unable to repay the loans or credit card bills. If you resort to illegal activities to get money for your gambling, as an example embezzling money from your employer or resorting to even more unsavory methods of obtaining cash for gambling.
There are treatment options for those persons who may become addicted to gambling. Gamblers anonymous is a 12 step program similar to alcoholics anonymous. Psychotherapy is another option which may be of some help to other persons. But whatever you do, if you feel your losing control of your gambling, do not hesitate to seek out professional help. Gambling is a chronic condition, and like alcoholism and any other form of addiction, relapse is always a possibility and abstinence is the best treatment. If treatment is not sought out and the gambling continues it may result in estrangement from family and friends. It can also result in severe legal and financial problems. It can also lead to depression and thoughts of suicide and other psychological problems.
You may ask why I have put this information on my website which encourages gambling. The reason is that I am a compulsive gambler myself. I do not gamble now and hopefully I will never gamble again. The reason I have created this site is that I do have the knowledge of how to win at gambling. The only problem is that I did not know how to stay won. I would continue to gamble regardless of how far ahead I was until I eventually would lose it all back. And if you gamble long enough you will lose it all back. That is the reason I urge anyone who gambles at any casino, whether it be an online casino or at a brick and mortar casino, to quit when they get to a predetermined limit. And have the self discipline to stick to that limit. If you do not have that self discipline to follow this advice then please do not start gambling!
You may also notice on this page I have no banner type ads for any online casinos. I have done this because I want this page to be about gambling addiction and recovery, not gambling promotion.
Disclaimer: Online gambling is illegal in many countries, states and other municipalities. I would urge anyone thinking of online gaming check with their local authorities about it's legality before making any wagers. This site is for information and entertainment purposes only.
