Do's and Dont's
Don't ever gamble with money you can't afford to lose. I know this sounds like an obviously good piece of advice but you'd be surprised how many gamblers ignore it. Don't be one of those gamblers. Gambling with money you can't afford can lead to financial ruin, and other severe problems. So please, whatever you do, don't get carried away. Control the gambling, don't let it control you.
Don't gamble while intoxicated or tired. In order to make wise wagering decisions you need to have all your wits about you. If your tired or intoxicated your more apt to make poor decisions. Don't drink or use other drugs while gambling and only gamble while wide awake.
Don't chase your loses. By this I mean, if you've had a bad day at the casino and nothing you do seems to going your way, quit for the day! Don't start betting erratically with the hopes of getting all your money back quickly. I can almost guarantee that if you do that you'll probably wind up losing even more. Many novice and amateur gamblers panic and make the mistake of increasing their bets wildly with the hopes of getting all their money back quickly.
Do stick with your gambling strategy. If your on a losing streak decrease the amount of your wagers, if on the other hand your on a winning streak increase your bets accordingly.
Don't throw your money away while on a losing cycle. If you lose 5 or 6 rolls of the dice, hands of blackjack, spins of the Roulette wheel or any other game, quit for that day. Go to another casino, or do whatever you feel necessary to break the cycle. But don't beat your head against the proverbial brick wall. You'll get nothing but a headache if you do.
Do set yourself realistic win-loss limits and and have the self discipline to stick with it. This is probably the biggest mistake most novice gamblers make, they'll get ahead a bit and then they start getting greedy, with the hopes of beating the house. But you must remember that the odds are in the houses favor and if you keep at it long enough you'll most likely lose back everything you won and then some.
Don't think of gambling as entertainment. When you do your more apt to become careless in your wagering decisions. Think of gambling as a source of income. Think of your bankroll as an investment that you expect a return on. If you think of gambling in these terms your more apt to make good wagering or betting decisions.
Do understand fully the particular casino game or games you like to play. Many online casinos offer guest or fun accounts. This is a great way to practice your strategies and or systems. Read any information you can find on your game and strategies or other information that may give you an edge.
Don't become stuck using some betting or wagering system because someone has told you that it's foolproof and guarantees you'll win. No system can guarantee that. The best system you should develop is a good, well planned out money management system.
Do set yourself a time limit for your play. Sitting to long in front of your computer or too long at the blackjack table will tire you out, and like I said before when you become tired your more apt to make mistakes and bad wagering decisions. Take a break and let your mind rest, you'll have a lot better chance to beat the casino if you do.
Don't rely on luck. Base your betting or wagering decisions on good sound judgment, base your decisions on how your game is going, not on your gut instinct. Luck is unpredictable and unreliable. Sometimes it's in your favor, sometimes not :)
If you ever feel your losing control of your gambling do seek out professional help. Gambling can become addictive and possibly lead to financial ruin. There are organizations like Gamblers Anonymous that can help.
